A.J. Terrell lands on injured reserve as Falcons remake the cornerback plan

The Atlanta Falcons placed cornerback A.J. Terrell on injured reserve Tuesday after he suffered a groin injury in Sunday's loss to Carolina. The move removes Atlanta's top outside coverage option for at least four games and gives C.J. Henderson the first opportunity to replace him, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Terrell left the Falcons' opening defensive series against the Panthers and did not return. He had started both games and entered 2026 with 93 career starts, 381 tackles and 61 passes defensed. His 2026 line was modest, but his assignment value matters because Atlanta now has to redistribute coverage work against a Green Bay offense that uses several receivers and can stress a replacement corner vertically.

Henderson is the immediate name to monitor, while the Falcons' injury report also lists Benjamin St-Juste and other defensive backs in the rotation. The club has not announced a new full-time depth chart, so an RSO manager should avoid treating one transaction as proof that Henderson will play every coverage snap. The more useful early signal will be the first defensive package against the Packers.

The loss affects fantasy matchups more than Terrell's own IDP value. Green Bay receivers may see more favorable targets if Atlanta protects Henderson with safety help, and the Falcons' pass rush may have to finish plays faster. Terrell should remain on dynasty rosters because IR is a timetable designation rather than a release signal.

Atlanta already enters Thursday at 0-2 and without much offensive stability. A missing shutdown corner gives Green Bay another reason to attack early, while the Falcons need Henderson and their pass rush to keep the game from becoming a target-volume spike for the Packers.
