Blue Jays erase three-run deficit, beat Reds 6-5

Toronto came back from a three-run deficit Friday to beat Cincinnati 6-5, scoring four times in the seventh inning. Cincinnati held the lead through the sixth. Toronto then put together a four-run seventh against Luis Mey. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. singled home Andrés Giménez to make it 5-3. Okamoto's double to center scored Kirk and Guerrero, tying it at five. Lukes followed with a ground-ball single to left that scored Springer, completing the reversal. Okamoto finished with two hits in three at-bats and three RBIs; Lukes had two hits and the decisive RBI.

The Toronto bullpen kept the Reds from answering. Brendan Cellucci worked two scoreless innings after starter José Soriano gave up five runs in three innings. Chad Dallas, Mason Fluharty, Tyler Rogers and Louis Varland completed the rest. Fluharty received the win for his two-thirds of a scoreless inning, and Varland earned the save with a scoreless ninth and two strikeouts. Mey took the loss after allowing all four seventh-inning runs.

The Reds brought a three-run advantage into the late innings, but Toronto's seventh clustered its key hits together. Okamoto's second double erased the deficit, and Lukes's next hit turned it into a lead. The final one-run margin held through Cincinnati's ninth.
