Purdy wins NFC weekly honor after three-score game against Dolphins

Brock Purdy earned the NFC Offensive Player of the Week award for Week 2 after leading San Francisco to a 35-13 home win over Miami. The distinction came Wednesday, three days after a performance that combined unusually accurate passing with a rushing score. The 49ers are 2-0 heading into Sunday's home game against Arizona.

Purdy completed 20 of 22 passes for 287 yards and two touchdowns against the Dolphins, finishing with a 149.1 passer rating. He added 30 rushing yards on three attempts and scored from two yards out in the second quarter. His touchdown passes in the third quarter went to George Kittle and Kyle Juszczyk. The award recognizes the entire Week 2 performance; it is not a forecast of his production against the Cardinals.

The 90.9 percent completion rate was the second highest in 49ers history for a quarterback with at least 20 attempts, according to the club. San Francisco's team account also says Purdy became the first NFL player to complete at least 90 percent of his passes while throwing for 285 or more yards, two or more touchdowns and adding a rushing touchdown in one game. Those thresholds describe how rare the Miami line was without implying a new season-long standard.

San Francisco scored touchdowns on each of its first five offensive possessions, according to the team's postgame account. Head coach Kyle Shanahan praised Purdy's decisions and placement after the win. The quarterback's efficiency was central, though the score also reflected a productive rushing attack and a defense that kept Miami out of the end zone until late in the fourth quarter.
