  • October 3 update: British Brooks moves to injured reserve

Houston placed British Brooks on injured reserve Friday, the team announced. Aaron Wilson reported that the move followed a hamstring injury. Brooks is therefore unavailable for Sunday’s game against Dallas, and NFL Trade Rumors reports that he must miss at least four games.

The move changes the active group described when Ogunbowale returned earlier this week. Ogunbowale’s signing remains a completed transaction; the Texans have not assigned him a new workload in their Brooks announcement. Brooks appeared in Houston’s first three games this season and recorded one special-teams tackle, according to the independent transaction report.

    September 29 signing

The Texans signed running back Dare Ogunbowale off the Raiders' practice squad Tuesday, bringing him back to the team where he spent the previous four seasons. Houston confirmed the transaction in its official press-room announcements.

  • Ogunbowale, 32, did not appear in a regular-season game for Las Vegas this year, NBC Sports' Charean Williams reported. When Houston signed Ogunbowale on September 29, its roster also listed David Montgomery, Woody Marks and British Brooks at running back. The signing adds another active player at the position; it does not establish a new order for carries.

Locked On Texans covered the reunion in a video published overnight after the announcement.

  • His previous Houston work was broader than his rushing totals. Across 63 games with the Texans, Ogunbowale played 730 offensive snaps and 1,058 special-teams snaps, according to Williams. That history explains why the move has value beyond adding a reserve ball carrier: Houston is bringing back someone who has handled substantial work on kicking units as well as offensive assignments.

  • During those four seasons, he had 91 rushing attempts for 295 yards and three total touchdowns. His career totals are 114 appearances, nine starts and 286 touches for 1,444 yards and seven touchdowns. Those figures describe a veteran contributor whose NFL experience has included multiple assignments rather than a long run as a starting back.

Houston hosts Dallas on October 4. The team's game information identifies that matchup as its Week 4 game, giving Ogunbowale his first opportunity to prepare with the Texans since returning from Las Vegas.

For roster planning, the completed transaction is the useful change. He has moved from another team's practice squad to Houston's active group, where his familiarity with the organization comes alongside previous offensive and special-teams experience. The Texans have not announced his Sunday snap share or a larger offensive role in the signing notice. Those decisions will depend on the team's preparation for Dallas.
